7 Reasons to Try Stand up Paddleboarding

SUP? If you haven’t tried stand up paddleboarding yet, there’s no reason to wait any longer. This fast-growing water sport is great for people of all ages and activity levels. And between the ocean, inlet, intracoastal and nearby rivers, Jupiter just happens to have some of the best spots to for stand up paddle boarding!

1. It’s a great way to get exercise. Stand up paddleboarding isn’t difficult, but you’ll definitely feel like you got a good workout in – probably without even realizing it! Balancing on the board and pushing the paddle through the water are both great core exercises – plus, everything is low-impact.

2. You can experience nature. Want to see all the amazing wildlife Jupiter has to offer? On a stand up paddleboard, you’ll get a whole new perspective. You can peer straight down into the crystal clear water, spot animals in the air and on the shore. You’ll also be able to navigate to places you may not be able to reach by swimming alone.

3. It’s easy for the whole family. Kids and adults alike will love this sport because it’s easy to learn.  You’ll be surprised at how quickly you can learn to stand, balance, propel yourself and even make turns on your paddleboard.

4. You (probably) won’t fall in. We can’t guarantee that you’ll never fall, but let’s just say that it’s not as common as you’d think. Stand up paddleboarding is a lot like riding a bicycle, in that constant momentum helps you be more stable.

5. You can do it (almost) anywhere there’s water. Glide through the waters of the lower Loxahatchee River, the Intracoastal Waterway, Sawfish Bay or even the Atlantic Ocean. With a board and paddle, you’ll be able to navigate almost any body of water. (Flat water is best for beginners, but SUPs can be used for surfing, too!) NOTE: As we mentioned on our Facebook page, it’s extremely important to be aware of and respectful to others around you, especially surfers — so we can all paddle and ride in peace.

6. It’s a great activity for board-lovers. You already love skateboarding, snowboarding, surfing and all other board sports, but when the conditions aren’t perfect for surfing or your trip to the Rockies is still months away, paddleboarding is a great way to stay in shape and enjoy the outdoors.

7. It’s just plain FUN! If you (or your kids) are looking for something fun and interesting to do, stand up paddleboarding is the perfect activity. This sport can either be exhilarating or relaxing, so no matter what mood you’re in, you’re sure to have a good time.
